Liam Barratt

Policy Assistant

Liam is a White Rose DTP BBSRC-funded PhD student at the University of York, where he also completed his undergraduate degree. Liam’s research focuses predominantly on statistical genetics, and how natural genetic diversity can be exploited to improve the stress tolerance of bread wheat. Throughout the pandemic, Liam became interested in how data and statistics were presented to the public and used by the government to inform their policy decisions. This interest led him to pursue an internship at Sense About Science, where he will work with the policy team to help policymakers understand how to utilise and scrutinise emerging research evidence.
